September 30, 2024 - National Day for Truth and Reconcilation
On September 30th, we wear orange to recognize National Truth and Reconciliation Day. This day honors the survivors, families, and communities affected by the residential school system in Canada and reflects on the ongoing work towards healing and reconciliation.
Did you know that the orange shirt symbol comes from Phyllis Webstad’s story? Her orange shirt, taken from her on her first day of residential school, became a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children.
Designed and created by friends in our Adult Day Program, our shirts are a reminder to listen, learn, and commit to meaningful action toward reconciliation and healing for Indigenous peoples.!
