March 26, 2024 - Epilepsy Awareness Day
The month of March is Epilepsy Awareness Month, and we wear purple on March 26th to show that we are spreading awareness about epilepsy and life with seizures, and learning about epilepsy and how to support our community!
Did you know that 1/100 people worldwide have Epilepsy? If you have a brain, you may have a seizure. 1/10 Canadians will have a seizure in their lifetime, though not every seizure is Epilepsy.
Epilepsy can be present at any age although its onset is most often in childhood or in the later years of life. Sometimes those who develop seizures during childhood outgrow their seizures. In the elderly, there is an increased incidence due to strokes and aging of the brain. In more than half of those with epilepsy, seizures can be well controlled with seizure medication.
Designed and created by friends in our Adult Day Program, our shirts raise awareness to bring awareness about Epilepsy and to help our community to learn how to support our friends living with Epilepsy!
