Frequently Asked Questions about Summer Camps at Diffabilities

We know that preparing for summer camp comes with lots of questions, and we're here to help! Below, you'll find answers to the most common questions about our camps. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help make this summer an amazing experience for your child!

Camp Details

When will I receive the daily schedule and activities for the camp(s) my child is registered for?

You will receive an email on the Wednesday before your child's camp start date with the daily schedule and activities. This allows us to plan around the weather and provide the most accurate information, ensuring a smooth and fun experience for everyone!

What happens if there is inclement weather and activities cannot happen outdoors?

If the weather prevents outdoor activities, we have two fully equipped centers where programming can continue indoors. Our centers are climate-controlled and stocked with materials for a fun and engaging experience. Additionally, we may visit indoor community activities and events to keep the day exciting!

I am worried about my child's hydration/temperature during summer camp.

Our Camp Teachers are trained to monitor hydration and temperature needs, ensuring all camp Friends stay safe and comfortable. We encourage regular water breaks and adjust activities as needed to keep everyone cool and hydrated throughout the day.

What are your staff ratios during camp?

Our staff ratios are tailored to meet the unique needs of each Camp Friend. We meet with families before camp to determine the level of support required and adjust staffing accordingly. Whether a child needs a 1:1 ratio or a different level of support, we ensure they have the care and assistance they need for a great camp experience.

My child has very specific sensory, physical or special needs (non-speaking, blind, wheelchair user, etc.). Can they attend Diffabilities Summer Camp?

Yes! Diffabilities Summer Camp is fully inclusive and welcomes all individuals (ages 5+) with disabilities. We work closely with families before camp to understand each child's sensory, physical, or support needs to ensure the best possible experience. Have more questions about accessibility? Contact us to discuss how we can accommodate your child!

Location & Transportation

What is the drop off and pick up locations for summer camp?

Drop-off and pick-up for summer camp take place at our two convenient locations: West Edmonton (17338 106A Ave NW) and Sherwood Park (41 Broadway Blvd #42). These centers provide a safe and accessible space for all campers. Please make sure your child is dropped off and picked up at the centre they are registered for.

Do you provide transportation to and from summer camp?

We do not provide transportation to and from summer camp, but we encourage families to use services like DATS (Edmonton) and Mobility Bus (Sherwood Park). If you need assistance arranging transportation or if transportation is a barrier to attendance, please contact us—we’re happy to help explore options!

Can my child be dropped off or picked up early or late from the pick up/drop off location?

Yes, we can accommodate early drop-off or late pick-up; however, this may require a different location. Please coordinate with our Camp Teachers in advance to arrange the best option for your family member.

Is transportation provided to and from activities during camp?

Yes! We provide transportation to and from activities during camp, including accessible options to ensure all Camp Friends can participate fully and comfortably.
